Osakidetza workers call for strike in Spain

Labor unions LAB, SATSE, ELA, CCOO, and UGT have confirmed a strike for all Osakidetza workers scheduled for October 30. The decision follows a sectoral meeting in Vitoria-Gasteiz where unions concluded there has been “no necessary progress” in negotiations with the Basque health service.

This mobilization is the first of five planned strikes. The unions have outlined a schedule that includes further actions in Araba on December 9, Bizkaia on December 10, Gipuzkoa on December 11, and a full Osakidetza strike on December 14.

The unions are demanding dignified working conditions and an agreement that ensures the sustainability of the public health system. They argue that current conditions require professionals to sacrifice their personal lives to maintain service quality and are calling for an agreement that prevents privatization and ensures adequate staffing levels.
