Brazil expands public health access through mobile units and clinical studies
Various public health initiatives and medical services are being deployed across Brazil to expand access to specialized care and clinical research.
In São Paulo, the Ministry of Health has mobilized SAMU 192 to support a clinical study at the Hospital das Clínicas (HC-FMUSP) regarding the use of polylaminin for treating acute spinal cord injuries. The study aims to recruit volunteers who have suffered injuries within the last 72 hours.
Mobile medical units are also being utilized for specialized screenings. In Niterói and Osasco, mobile units are providing women's health services, including mammographies and ultrasounds, to aid in the early diagnosis of breast and cervical cancers. Osasco is also hosting an ophthalmology mobile unit to reduce waiting lists for cataract surgeries and eye exams.
Other regional efforts include the extension of mobile CT scan services in São Pedro da Aldeia and the distribution of free eyeglasses through the 'Visão Caxiense' program in Duque de Caxias. Additionally, community health and citizenship actions are being held in Arraial do Cabo to provide vaccinations, dental care, and social services.
