Bosnia and Herzegovina reduces diplomatic ties with Serbia
Bosnia and Herzegovina has significantly downgraded diplomatic relations with Serbia following the state funeral of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić in Belgrade. Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković announced the expulsion of two Serbian diplomats—military attaché Milan Dulanović and BIA advisor Danko Maksimović—who have 48 hours to leave the country.
In addition to the expulsions, Konaković stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will withdraw most of its embassy staff in Belgrade, transferring consular services to missions in Zagreb, Podgorica, and Novi Pazar. Bosnia and Herzegovina has also withdrawn its support for a joint declaration on regional cooperation and good neighborly relations, which was set to be signed in Montenegro on October 1.
The diplomatic fallout follows international condemnation of the glorification of Mladić. The OSCE expressed serious concern over the direct broadcast of the commemoration on Radio Televizija Republike Srpske (RTRS), noting that the content was presented without proper editorial context or reference to his convictions for genocide and crimes against humanity. The OSCE has called on the Communications Regulatory Agency (RAK) to conduct an independent assessment of the broadcast to determine if any legal violations occurred.
