Oshkosh Defense begins Kaaiman prototype production for Netherlands

Oshkosh Defense has commenced production of the first prototype for the ‘Kaaiman’ patrol vehicle, designed specifically for the Netherlands Royal Marine Corps. The vehicle is a specialized version of the company’s Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) platform, adapted for expeditionary and coastal operations.

To meet the requirements of the Netherlands Ministry of Defence, the Kaaiman features enhanced mobility, an upgraded suspension system, and specialized corrosion protection for maritime environments. The vehicle is also designed to operate in extreme temperatures and includes integrated mission systems with the capacity to support future weapons or sensor installations.

The Dutch Ministry of Defence previously contracted the procurement of 150 vehicles, with deliveries to the Korps Mariniers expected to begin in 2028. By utilizing an existing, fielded platform, Oshkosh aims to accelerate development timelines and reduce lifecycle risks.
