Osiptel reports over 5,700 unrecognized mobile lines in Piura

The Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel) has reported 5,750 cases of unrecognized mobile phone lines in the Piura region between January and July 2026. The highest number of reports occurred in July with 1,007 cases, followed by May and February.

To combat identity theft and the misuse of personal data, Osiptel encourages citizens to use the ‘Checa tus líneas’ digital platform. This tool allows users to verify how many mobile lines are registered under their National Identity Document (DNI). If an unrecognized line is detected, users can report it through the platform using facial verification via the ID Perú app, managed by Reniec.

Once a report is filed, the system directs the case to the respective telecommunications operator, which is required to address the request within a maximum of three business days. Additionally, Osiptel noted that nationwide mobile user churn in 2025 was 4.27%, which remained below the expected 5% threshold.
