Patriks Gailums wins bronze at European Athletics Championships

Latvian athletes achieved notable results at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. Javelin thrower Patriks Gailums secured a bronze medal with a best throw of 82.97 meters.

Sprinter Oskars Grava finished fifth in the 200m final with a time of 20.28 seconds. Although his performance was his best in Birmingham to date, the result will not count as a Latvian record because the wind speed of +2.5 m/s exceeded the allowable limit of +2.0 m/s. The gold medal in the event went to Germany’s Owen Ansah.

Other Latvian participants, including javelin thrower Anete Sietiņa and decathlete Valters Kreišs, did not advance to the final rounds of their respective disciplines.
