Sungurlu Oil Wrestling tournament features 750 athletes
The 15th Traditional Sungurlu Oil Wrestling tournament took place in Çorum, Turkey, featuring approximately 750 wrestlers, including 36 head wrestlers. Mehmet Yeşil Yeşil secured the championship title after defeating Ali Gürbüz in the final match.
During the event, 11-year-old Osman Ali Davutoğlu, a Tanzanian-born wrestler known as ‘Arap Osman’, drew significant attention. Adopted by Turkish diplomat Ali Davutoğlu, the young athlete met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at a previous Presidential Cup event and participated in the Sungurlu matches, expressing his ambition to become a head wrestler and represent Turkey.
The tournament, organized by the Sungurlu Municipality after a 14-year hiatus, was attended by local officials and the President of the Turkish Wrestling Federation, Taha Akgül.
