Osman Karabulut recovers 150,000 Lira after phishing scam
A customer of a private bank, Osman Karabulut, was targeted by a phishing scam after approving a misleading text message that read, “If you do not want messages, cancel and confirm.” Following the approval, 150,000 Turkish Lira was withdrawn from his credit card limit.
Upon discovering the theft, Karabulut immediately contacted customer service to freeze his card and internet banking access. He subsequently filed a formal objection with the bank. Investigations revealed that the fraudulent transactions were processed through a flour factory and that the scammers had changed his internet banking passwords.
After the bank reviewed the security breach, the 150,000 Lira was returned to Karabulut's account within four to five days. Karabulut has urged the public to be cautious and never approve messages without thoroughly examining their content.
