Ostia domestic violence: Latvian man arrested for pepper spray and knife attack

Police responded to a 112 call reporting a violent domestic dispute in an apartment on Via dell’Idroscalo in Ostia, Rome. A 32‑year‑old man of Latvian origin assaulted his 51‑year‑old Polish partner, first spraying her with pepper spray and then threatening her with a diving knife.

The victim was taken to the Grassi Hospital in Ostia, where doctors assessed her injuries as treatable with a prognosis of about 40 days. The Carabinieri arrested the suspect, transferred him to the Regina Coeli prison in Rome and placed him at the disposal of the judicial authority. The case is being investigated as a possible violation of the law on family maltreatment.
