Domestic violence incidents in Rome

Overview

A 47-year-old man was arrested in Rome’s Fontana Candida area following an attempted femicide. The incident occurred when the victim visited her ex-husband’s apartment to collect belongings, at which point the man verbally assaulted her and stabbed her in the chest four times.

Following the attack, the suspect drove the victim and their teenage son to the Tor Vergata Polyclinic emergency room. After medical staff began treatment, the man fled the scene with the son. A seven-hour manhunt involving helicopters, video surveillance, and checkpoints led police to the father and son on the Roman coast in Torvajanica. Investigators noted that the suspect had allegedly attempted to tamper with his vehicle’s satellite device to evade detection.

The victim survived the attack, which medical professionals described as being due to “fortuitous events.” The victim has since reported a history of domestic violence that led to their prior separation and is receiving medical assistance and support services under gender-based violence regulations.

The teenager has been taken into protective custody, and authorities have activated protocols for juvenile protection. While the suspect remains under judicial review, investigators are also looking into a fire that broke out at the residence where the attack occurred two days later, considering the possibility of retaliation.
