Ostrava launches mobility and senior safety initiatives
The city of Ostrava is implementing several community-focused initiatives in 2026. As part of the European Mobility Week running from September 16 to 22, the city will participate in the pan-European campaign to promote sustainable transport methods such as walking, cycling, and public transit. The theme for this year is “Intergenerational Justice,” focusing on creating safe and accessible transportation for all age groups. Program highlights include lectures and walking tours, such as a presentation by Petr Lexa Přendík on the historical evolution of bicycles.
Simultaneously, the Municipal Police Ostrava is continuing the “Ostrava – Senior Messenger of Prevention – 2026” project. This initiative aims to protect elderly residents from various threats, including fraudulent phone calls, fake emails, and street scams. Officers are visiting senior clubs and community centers to provide practical advice on internet safety and road security. The project also includes direct outreach to seniors in their homes and the launch of the SeniorOVA Academy, a 14-part lecture series starting September 1.
