Ostrava to add 70 electric buses to its public transport fleet

The municipal transport operator Dopravní podnik Ostrava (DPO) has signed a contract to buy 70 new electric buses from Solaris, valued at roughly 900 million CZK. More than half of the cost will be covered by European Union subsidies from the Modernisation Fund and other national programmes. The buses will feature air‑conditioning, full‑comfort specifications, a range of 250–350 km and night‑charging capability.

DPO will also construct a new charging infrastructure that enables intelligent load management. The procurement is part of the city’s “Bez dieselu” strategy, which aims to raise the share of zero‑emission vehicles in the fleet from the current 10 % to 35 % after the buses and charging stations are delivered. With the new vehicles, DPO’s fleet will consist entirely of zero‑ and low‑emission (CNG) buses. “Nejnáročnější částí projektu není pouze samotný výběr autobusů, ale vybudování technického a energetického zázemí,” said Daniel Morys, chairman and CEO of DPO.
