Czech municipal electric bus expansions

In late July 2026, two Czech cities announced large-scale purchases of electric buses backed by European Union subsidies. Olomouc’s transport operator signed a contract for 20 new electric buses—ten 12‑metre and ten 18‑metre models—funded at roughly 50 % by the EU, with delivery slated for mid‑2028 and accompanying charging infrastructure. The city also procured ten diesel buses as a backup for outages.

A few days later, Ostrava’s municipal operator contracted 70 electric buses from the same manufacturer, with EU Modernisation Fund and national programmes covering more than half the cost. The order includes air‑conditioned vehicles with a 250–350 km range and night‑charging capability, and will be supported by a new smart charging network. The procurement advances Ostrava’s “Bez dieselu” strategy, aiming to raise the zero‑emission share of its fleet from 10 % to 35 %.

Both procurements illustrate a broader push by Czech municipalities to replace aging diesel fleets with zero‑emission buses, leveraging substantial EU funding to expand electric‑vehicle infrastructure and reduce urban emissions.
