Ostrava’s Krásné Pole Roundabout Completed, Costing Over 10 Million CZK

A new roundabout has been opened at the former Opavská‑Družební intersection in the Krásné Pole district of Ostrava, Czech Republic. The project, carried out by the Moravskoslezský kraj, replaces a historically dangerous crossroads that recorded 24 accidents in the past five years, including one fatality.

Construction began in mid‑April and was finished in ten weeks, adhering to the planned schedule and budget. The roundabout cost 10.3 million CZK, with 7.3 million CZK subsidised from the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. Contractor COLAS CZ a.s. removed the old pavement, reinforced the sub‑base, and installed a concrete‑topped circular junction with anti‑skid surfacing, new curbs, and traffic signs. Additional works included ditch upgrades, restored access to adjacent properties, and terrain adjustments.

The development marks the 100th roundabout built under the regional authority’s programme to replace high‑risk intersections with safer circular designs, aiming to reduce collision severity and improve traffic flow. Deputy Governor for Transport Radek Podstawka highlighted the timely completion and thanked local residents for their patience during the full closure of the site.
