Ostrava's Rudná Street to undergo six‑kilometre resurfacing in 20 days

The Czech Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) will replace the pavement on a six‑kilometre stretch of Rudná Street, the busiest first‑class road in the Moravian‑Silesian region, over a 20‑day period in August. The project costs 155 million CZK and involves around a hundred workers, twelve road‑milling machines and continuous two‑ and three‑shift operations to minimise disruption. Traffic is reduced to one lane per direction, with buses and emergency vehicles given priority; drivers face frequent queues as up to 40 000 vehicles travel the road each day. Noise‑intensive work is scheduled for daytime shifts, while quieter tasks such as sealant application occur overnight. The new surface is expected to last 16‑18 years. The directorate also plans further bridge repairs on Rudná and a major road‑covering project in the city centre for 2027‑2028.
