Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski commemorates 84th anniversary of ghetto liquidation

Local officials and residents in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski gathered to commemorate the 84th anniversary of the Nazi liquidation of the local Jewish ghetto. During the events on October 11 and 12, 1941, as part of Operation Reinhardt, German soldiers expelled approximately 15,000 Jewish residents from their homes.

Following a selection process in the town square, over 11,000 people, including women, children, and the elderly, were transported in cattle cars to extermination camps, primarily Treblinka. A smaller group of approximately 1,500 young men remained in a 'small ghetto' or forced labor camps to work in local industries, such as brickworks and the Ostrowiec plants.
