Osun Governor Orders Suspension of NURTW Operations in State Motor Parks

Governor Ademola Adeleke directed the immediate suspension of all National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) activities in motor parks across Osun State, ordered police to stop levies collection and to arrest anyone posing as union officials, and approved a rapid‑response squad to enforce the measure. The governor said the step was taken after a security‑council meeting to restore order in the parks.

NURTW President Musiliu Akinsanya, known as MC Oluomo, declared the governor’s action unconstitutional, stating “no governor has such power.” The national union cited the statutory establishment of NURTW and past court victories against similar state suspensions. In response, the union inaugurated a seven‑member caretaker committee, chaired by Kazeem Oyewale (Asiri Eniba), to manage union affairs in the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election, citing a memorandum of understanding with INEC.

The Osun State government later clarified that the order only suspends union activities, does not dissolve the existing leadership under Nurudeen Alowonle, and called the caretaker appointment null and void. Both sides continue to dispute the legal authority over the suspension.
