Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke Seeks Visa Bans on Opposition Leaders

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State called for economic sanctions and visa bans on several opposition figures—including Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, APC gubernatorial candidate Bola Oyebamiji and APC campaign director Wole Oke—accusing them of fostering political violence ahead of the August 15 governorship election. He made the appeal while receiving a British delegation led by senior political adviser Wale Adebajo, which was in the state for pre‑election peace‑building talks. Adeleke cited the killing of an Accord Party member in Ijebu‑Jesa and reported that five Accord members had been killed and 15 critically injured in attacks blamed on suspected APC thugs. He urged security agencies to arrest any suspect, regardless of political affiliation, and said, “I have zero tolerance for violence.” The British representative affirmed support for a peaceful, transparent electoral process and said the team would continue engaging stakeholders.

The governor also noted that the European Union election‑observer mission will monitor the upcoming poll, underscoring the broader international attention on the state’s electoral environment.
