Osun Governor Adeleke orders probe after political ally shot dead in Ile-Ife

Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Ajagungbade Emir, a political associate of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and a member of the Accord Party, was shot dead in Ile-Ife. The incident occurred at the Mayfair Motor Park during a reported dispute over the control and leadership of motor parks.

Reports indicate the shooting took place during a meeting involving various transport stakeholders. Following the violence, Governor Adeleke ordered the Commissioner of Police to arrest all suspects involved in the killing. To prevent further escalation and address the underlying cause of the conflict, the Governor directed rival groups to vacate the motor parks immediately and announced the reintroduction of a Park Management System via Executive Order.

Oyeyemi had previously been involved in legal controversies and was reportedly on a police wanted list regarding allegations of terrorism and unlawful killing, though he had been granted bail earlier in 2024. The shooting has caused significant tension in parts of Ile-Ife, prompting calls for increased security vigilance in the state.
