Osun State Local Government Crisis Escalates Amid Court Rulings and Party Dispute

The Federal High Court in Osogbo dismissed a suit filed by All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen that sought clarification on the start of their tenure, ruling that the tenure of the APC‑elected local government officials had ended. Following the judgment, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) resumed duties as chairmen and councillors in several Osun local government areas, including Ede North, Ede South, Iwo, Boripe and Ila.

APC leaders and the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) accuse Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of misinterpreting the court decision and using police forces to enforce a disputed interpretation, warning that such actions could spark public disorder. They note that an appeal and a stay of execution application were filed on June 16, 2026, and served on all parties, including the police. The APC stresses that the court’s ruling does not legitimize the February 2025 local elections it deems invalid, and urges residents to remain peaceful while the legal process continues.
