Osun State police crackdown ahead of governorship election

Inspector‑General of Police Tunji Disu travelled to Osogbo in Osun State and warned that political violence would not be tolerated ahead of the August 15 governorship election. He said more than 20 people had been killed in recent months and ordered Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan to pursue all suspects, stating that “nobody will commit a crime and go scot‑free”.

Disu met with Governor Ademola Adeleke, leaders of the All Progressives Congress and Accord parties, traditional rulers and the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner. He pledged police security for campaign activities, urged parties to refrain from war‑like conduct, and demanded unhindered police access to arrest alleged political thugs allegedly sheltering in the state government house.
