Osun State political violence sparks confrontations between Governor Adeleke and Minister Oyetola

Political clashes erupted in Osun State, Nigeria, after a series of violent attacks targeted supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in towns including Owode Ede, Ile‑Ife, Ede and Osogbo. Governor Ademola Adeleke condemned the attacks as a threat to peace and called on President Bola Tinubu and security agencies to intervene, urging calm and pledging to prosecute those responsible regardless of affiliation.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, speaking through his adviser, accused Governor Adeleke of weaponising insecurity for political gain and spreading false accusations. Oyetola urged the police, DSS and other agencies to maintain law and order ahead of the August 15 governorship election, warning that propaganda would not change the will of the people.

Both officials appealed for increased security deployment and urged political rivals to restrain their supporters, emphasizing that democracy must not become a battlefield of violence.
