Osun State shooting in Osogbo kills two and injures many

A violent attack on an All Progressives Congress (APC) gathering in the Owode‑Igbona area of Osogbo, Osun State, killed two people – 70‑year‑old Kazeem Akande and a man identified only as Lekan – and left several others wounded, including a 13‑year‑old girl. The incident occurred on Wednesday night and involved armed men opening fire on the meeting, which was part of the party’s governorship campaign ahead of the August 15 election.

Police confirmed separate clashes in the Egbatedo and Owode‑Igbona districts, recovering a pistol, ammunition and cartridges. Two suspects were arrested in connection with the Egbatedo clash, while no arrests have yet been made for the Owode‑Igbona shooting. Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke condemned the violence, called for calm and urged security agencies to apprehend those responsible. APC leaders also condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation.
