Ouagadougou to Host 8th West African Physics Congress in July 2026

The West African Society of Physics (SOAPHYS) announced that its 8th international congress will take place in Ouagadougou from 29 July to 1 August 2026 at the Université Joseph Ki‑Zerbo. The event, themed “Supporting access to energy, sustainable agriculture and food security through applied physics,” aims to translate scientific research into technologies and enterprises that benefit West African communities.

Organisers expect participation from researchers, engineers, industry leaders, public‑sector decision‑makers and young scientists from across ten sub‑regional countries. Sessions will cover energy physics and energy sovereignty, physics for sustainable agriculture and food security, space science, modelling, data science, innovation, industrial transformation, and cross‑cutting issues such as scientific governance, digital tools and artificial intelligence.
