Oura files for Nasdaq IPO following significant revenue growth
Smart ring manufacturer Oura Inc. has filed for an initial public offering (IPO) on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol OURA. The company is seeking a valuation that could reach between $11 billion and $16 billion, with reports suggesting a potential capital raise of up to $3 billion.
Financial filings reveal significant growth, with revenue for the nine months ending June 30 reaching approximately $1.21 billion, a 74% increase year-over-year. The company has also recently transitioned toward profitability, reporting a net income of $60.8 million for that same period, compared to $1.6 million the previous year. Oura currently boasts 5 million paid subscribers and has shipped millions of rings.
Despite the growth, the filing highlights several risks and challenges. Oura noted that battery performance issues in certain Oura Ring 4 units contributed to $84.4 million in warranty expenses. Additionally, the company faces a proposed class-action lawsuit alleging it overstated the accuracy of its sleep-tracking capabilities. Oura also emphasized its competitive advantage through its massive biometric dataset, which includes 42 billion hours of physiological readings.
