Ourense forest fire triggers emergency response near residential areas

A major forest fire in the municipality of Calvos de Randín, Ourense, has burned approximately 140 hectares. Due to the fire's proximity to the As Meaus residential area in the neighboring municipality of Baltar, authorities have declared Situation 2 as a preventive emergency measure.

The fire, which began at 1:36 PM on Thursday, is spreading through terrain described by Baltar Mayor José Antonio Feijoo as being of “very difficult access.” While the flames threaten nearby villages, no evacuations have been ordered by the Civil Guard as of the latest reports.

Extinction efforts involve a massive deployment of resources, including 17 brigades, 8 helicopters, and 9 aircraft. The Ministry for Ecological Transition has also contributed five aircraft and two brigades to assist the regional Consellería do Medio Rural in controlling the blaze.
