Ourense grape harvest progresses despite recent rainfall

The grape harvest is progressing in the Ourense region of Spain, characterized by an early start and high-quality fruit. In the Valdeorras denomination, 26 out of 41 wineries are already operational, having collected between 2.4 and 2.5 million kilograms of grapes. This rapid pace has been driven by large producers such as the Cooperativa de O Barco.

Weather conditions have played a dual role in this campaign. While intense heat caused the grapes to mature earlier than usual, recent persistent rainfall has forced some wineries to pause operations. However, producers note that the light rain is benefiting vineyards in granitic and slate soils by providing essential hydration, which is expected to enhance the final quality of the harvest.

In other areas, such as the Tintorera variety harvests, the early heat has also led to higher alcohol levels in the grapes. While some fruit shows signs of dehydration, the sanitary condition of the grapes remains excellent.
