Outlander: Blood of My Blood reveals origins of Black Jack Randall

In the sixth episode of the second season of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, titled ‘Small Mercies’, the series introduces a young Jonathan Wolverton Randall, known as Black Jack Randall. Played by Finley Glasgow, the character appears as a teenage British soldier at Fort William.

A pivotal moment occurs when Brian Fraser intervenes to save the young Randall during a dangerous confrontation involving Dougal MacKenzie and Murtagh. This act of mercy establishes a connection to the original series, as Brian’s decision to spare Randall foreshadows the character's future role as a primary antagonist who will later torment Jamie Fraser.

Other major plot developments in the episode include Lord Lovat poisoning Ellen MacKenzie and Julia Beauchamp with a potion intended to cause sterility. The episode also follows Dougal MacKenzie’s escape from a flooded cell at Fort William and concludes with the characters Henry and Julia hiding letters in a stone.
