Overasselt residents recover following fatal shooting investigation

Five days after a fatal shooting in Overasselt that claimed the life of security guard Berry Leenders, residents are attempting to return to normalcy. While locals report a sense of returning calm, there has been expressed frustration regarding the lack of an NL-Alert during the incident.

Police investigations continue in the surrounding areas, including Nederasselt. Authorities have conducted a large-scale search using metal detectors in fields and along roads near the residence of Jan G. A police raid was also carried out at a vacant house in Nederasselt that was recently listed for sale; the owner expressed concern that the police activity might lead potential buyers to mistakenly believe the property is associated with drug trafficking.

A fundraising campaign for the deceased security guard has raised approximately 20,000 euros, with the target now increased to 22,000 euros to support his family.
