Overasselt violence: Belgian man arrested in connection with fatal shooting

Dutch authorities have arrested a 26-year-old Belgian man in Amsterdam in connection with the violent incident in Overasselt. This arrest brings the total number of suspects in the case to 35.

The violence occurred on a Monday night/Tuesday morning when approximately thirty heavily armed men moved through the village. The group was reportedly targeting a residence linked to drug criminality. During the incident, a 51-year-old security guard was shot and killed, and two police officers were wounded.

Of the suspects detained, 32 have been held in custody following appearances before a judge. They face charges including murder, manslaughter, and attempted murder of police officers.

A planned memorial service for the victim at the Carolus Magnus student association in Nijmegen was canceled by the association due to safety considerations, though police stated they had not issued a formal negative advisory regarding the event.
