Ovie Omo-Agege escapes alleged assassination attempt in Delta State

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, the Delta State governorship candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), reportedly escaped an assassination attempt on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

The incident occurred in the Usiefrun community within the Ughelli South Local Government Area during a political tour of the Delta Central Senatorial District. Omo-Agege stated that armed men opened fire on NDC members who had gathered to welcome the delegation. He identified himself as the primary target of the attack.

While Omo-Agege and Iyovwaye escaped unharmed, six NDC members sustained injuries during the shooting. The injured individuals were identified as Believe Biadoyo, Joshua Oghenetega Oyibocha, Owhos Peter, Ojiyovwin Dennis, and two others. Omo-Agege attributed the attack to suspected thugs linked to a rival political party and has called for a police investigation.
