Oviedo promotes 2031 European Capital of Culture candidacy

The city of Oviedo is promoting its candidacy to become a European Capital of Culture in 2031. During the FIDMA 2026 fair, Mayor Alfredo Canteli presented the project, emphasizing the concept of ‘Amabilidad’ (Kindness) as the central narrative used to engage the citizens of Asturias.

As part of its community outreach, the Oviedo 2031 project has launched a participatory initiative to address resident inquiries. Aida San Juan, Project Development Manager, confirmed that the candidacy will continue to prioritize activities for children, citing the success of previous community events like the ‘Marcha por la Amabilidad’ which involved thousands of local students.
