Seyi Makinde faces APM leadership crisis amid 2027 campaign
Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State and presidential candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), is facing significant internal opposition. Six state chairmen from the South-South region have passed a vote of no confidence in Makinde, accusing him of poor leadership, dishonesty, and mishandling funds. The chairmen specifically alleged that Makinde has sidelined established party structures by appointing campaign coordinators from outside the party.
Despite this internal friction, Makinde continues to promote his ‘Reset Nigeria’ agenda, which focuses on four pillars: education, economy, security, and socio-political empowerment. During recent town hall meetings in Ondo and Akwa Ibom states, he called for a national rebirth and urged the Southwest region to lead the charge. He has also criticized the current federal government’s economic policies and taxation methods, promising tax incentives for entrepreneurs if elected in 2027.
Political opponents, including the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation, have dismissed Makinde’s presidential ambitions as a ‘smokescreen’ intended to undermine the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
