Oyo State headmaster rescued after 48‑hour kidnapping

On July 11‑12, 2026, Mr. M. K. Owoade, a 60‑year‑old headmaster of Nomadic Basic School in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, Oyo State, Nigeria, was abducted from his farm on the Igbojaye‑Budo Aare road. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N30 million.

A coordinated operation involving the Oyo State Police Command, the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes and hunters secured his release on the evening of July 13. He was taken to a medical facility for evaluation and is cooperating with investigators. The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) condemned the attack and called on authorities to improve security for teachers and education workers.
