Oyo State Police seize N32 million of diverted corn, arrest two suspects

The Oyo State Police Command arrested two alleged members of a criminal syndicate, Olawale Kareem, 40, and Ogunbiyi Monday, 46, after storming a hideout in the Irepo area of Oyo Town. Police recovered an IVECO truck (registration MUS 809 XY, Lagos) loaded with 570 bags of guinea corn that had been diverted while being transported from Kaduna State. The recovered consignment is valued at about N32 million.

The operation was carried out by the Command Monitoring Unit on intelligence provided to the command. In a statement, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka said the suspects confessed to their roles and that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other syndicate members and retrieve any further diverted goods. Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga praised the officers and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives, property and commercial activities in the state.
