Oyo State Police vow no compromise on sexual abuse cases

Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, has pledged that the police command will not compromise on cases involving sexual abuse, defilement, or rape. Speaking during an advocacy visit by the Oyo State Media Corps on Ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (ESGBV) in Ibadan, Olugbenga emphasized the importance of prosecuting these crimes to deter future offenders.

The Commissioner highlighted recent successes, including the recovery of a child allegedly sold by her mother and the rescue of a nine-day-old infant from human traffickers. He noted that the command faces challenges in prosecuting certain cases, particularly when the perpetrators are relatives of the survivors, due to difficulties in obtaining evidence from family members.
