Oyo State political realignment sees mass defections to APC
Oyo State is experiencing significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections. Thousands of supporters from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Accord have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Key defectors include PDP candidate Hon. Hammed Taoreed Ademola and Hon. Mustapha Kazeem, a former loyalist of Governor Seyi Makinde. Additionally, the APC is working to consolidate its structure, with State Chairman Moses-Alake Adeyemo visiting former deputy governor Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja to secure his support. Arapaja, who previously aligned with Governor Makinde, has joined the APC.
In a separate development within the PDP, former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose has declared Governor Seyi Makinde as the leader of the party in the South-West region, signaling a shift in internal party dynamics. Meanwhile, APC gubernatorial candidate Sarafadeen Alli has criticized the current administration, alleging that the lack of local government autonomy has led to the deterioration of access roads across the state.
