Ozone pollution levels trigger alerts in Valladolid and Madrid

This follows nine consecutive days where ozone values exceeded 100 µg/m³, including several instances where eight-hour values surpassed 120 µg/m³. Monitoring stations such as Vega Sicilia and Michelín have recorded elevated concentrations. High temperatures are expected to persist through August 20, potentially maintaining these levels. Authorities recommend that the general population reduce outdoor sports during midday hours, while sensitive groups should limit prolonged or vigorous physical activity.

In Madrid, environmentalists have criticized institutional responses as ozone levels exceed European regulatory limits. Data indicates that monitoring stations, including Casa de Campo, have exceeded the ‘Health Protection Threshold’ for many days, far surpassing the annual limit of 25 days allowed by current regulations.
