Pé-de-Meia program targets high school completion in Brazil

The Pé-de-Meia program, a Brazilian initiative designed to support low-income high school students, is showing significant potential for social and economic impact. Research from Insper suggests the program could lead to approximately 372,000 additional high school completions annually, potentially generating an estimated R$ 184.6 billion in economic and social benefits.

To maintain eligibility, students must meet specific requirements, including a minimum school attendance rate of 80%. As part of the 2026 payment schedule, the sixth installment of the Frequency Incentive—amounting to R$ 200—is scheduled to be deposited into Caixa Tem accounts between September 21 and September 28.

Beyond graduation rates, experts emphasize that the program's long-term value depends on the quality of learning, as measured by metrics like PISA 2025. The ultimate goal is to ensure that students develop the skills and competencies necessary to improve productivity, income, and social participation.
