Jalisco implements municipal council reforms and new health projects

In Jalisco, Mexico, the Instituto Electoral y de Participación Ciudadana (IEPC) has approved a new structure for municipal governments to be implemented for the 2026-2027 electoral process. Following federal constitutional reforms and demographic data from INEGI, the number of council members (regidurías) for the state's 125 municipalities will be adjusted. Municipalities with populations between 50,001 and 500,000, such as Puerto Vallarta, Tala, and Ameca, will now have 14 members. Larger municipalities with over 500,000 residents, including Guadalajara and Zapopan, will maintain 15 members, while smaller municipalities will have 11.

Separately, Governor Pablo Lemus is advancing several regional initiatives. The 'Colmenas' community model, originally from Zapopan, is being expanded across the state to provide educational and cultural services in vulnerable areas. In Juanacatlán, Lemus announced a 15 million peso investment for a new health center in the Villas Andalucía subdivision, capable of serving 30,000 residents, alongside the delivery of new mobile medical units and plans for a new bridge to improve connectivity with El Salto.
