Pachuca taxi fares increased to 45 pesos amid operator requests for more
Authorities in Hidalgo have established a new minimum taxi fare of 45 pesos, increasing from the previous rate of 38 pesos. This decision follows negotiations between the government and transport representatives to address long-standing issues with unofficial pricing. The new scheme also increases the cost per additional kilometer from 3 to 4 pesos.
Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar warned that sanctions will be applied to operators who fail to comply with the new rates, including those operating during the Feria de San Francisco. Supervision will be conducted by the Ministry of Mobility, Public Security, and local municipal governments. The state has also indicated that it will be more rigorous in enforcing regulations, such as insurance requirements, and may revoke concessions for non-compliance.
Despite the adjustment, some taxi operators in Pachuca are requesting further increases, proposing a minimum fare of 50 pesos. Drivers argue that the 45-peso rate does not sufficiently cover maintenance costs or the time lost due to heavy traffic congestion, particularly in southern areas of the city. They have requested that the Ministry of Mobility and Transport conduct field observations during peak hours to better understand these operational challenges.
