Pacific Highway speed cameras reinstated at Sandgate, NSW

Two fixed speed cameras have been reinstalled on the Pacific Highway at Sandgate, New South Wales, after being removed for three years during the Hexham Straight upgrade. The northbound unit returns to its original location, while the southbound camera has been shifted about 70 metres north to align with the completed road works.

The devices will operate in a warning mode for at least one month, issuing letters to drivers caught speeding; after that period fines and demerit points will be applied. Transport for NSW road‑safety executive Duncan Lucas said the cameras help reinforce safe driving, noting that before their 2003 installation the stretch saw 23 casualty crashes, one fatality and 24 injuries, whereas since then there have been no deaths and a marked drop in injuries.
