Pacific Leaders Coordinate Climate and Digital Agendas Ahead of COP31

Pacific climate ministers gathered at the sixth Pacific Climate Ministers Talanoa, co‑chaired by Solomon Islands Environment Minister Wayne Ghemu and Australia’s Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen. They agreed to present a unified Pacific position at the pre‑COP31 meeting in Fiji and at COP31 in Turkey (9‑20 Nov), stressing regional priorities, climate finance, geopolitics and the need for coordinated technical planning.

In a separate meeting in Port Moresby, senior ICT officials from Pacific nations finalized recommendations for the upcoming Forum ICT Ministers Meeting. chaired by Lume Polume, the delegates focused on artificial intelligence, social‑media governance and the implementation of the Pacific ICT and Digital Transformation Action Plan 2024‑2030, highlighting Solomon Islands’ leadership in the process. Both gatherings aim to shape practical regional policies that will influence global climate and digital negotiations.
