Pacitan police arrest man for Rp350 million gold theft
Police in Pacitan, East Java, have arrested a suspect identified as S (also referred to as SRW) for a major theft involving gold jewelry and cash totaling approximately Rp350 million. The victim, 64-year-old Mesirah, reported the loss after returning from a wedding reception in late July 2026.
Investigations revealed that the suspect entered the residence in Kalikuning Village through a bathroom window and used a crowbar to break into cabinets. The suspect admitted to using the stolen funds to support an addiction to online gambling, specifically slot games. Authorities tracked the suspect by monitoring suspicious gold sales and identified him through CCTV footage.
In addition to the primary theft, the suspect reportedly admitted to committing thefts at three other homes in the Kebonagung district. He faces charges under the Indonesian Criminal Code, with a maximum potential sentence of seven years in prison.
