Gold theft in Pacitan, East Java

Police in Pacitan, East Java, arrested a suspect identified as S (also referred to as SRW) for the theft of gold jewelry and cash valued at approximately Rp350 million. The theft occurred in late July 2026 in Kalikuning Village while the victim, 64-year-old Mesirah, was attending a wedding.

Pacitan Police Chief AKBP Ayub Diponegoro Azhar stated that the suspect entered the residence through a bathroom window and used a crowbar to access cabinets. Authorities apprehended the suspect within the Pacitan Regency after monitoring suspicious gold sales and identifying him through CCTV footage. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to using the proceeds to fund an addiction to online gambling, specifically slot games.

Beyond the initial incident, the suspect reportedly admitted to committing thefts at three other homes in the Kebonagung district. He faces charges under the Indonesian Criminal Code, with a maximum potential sentence of seven years in prison.
