Paco Núñez calls for Castilla‑La Mancha water to be first allocated to local farmers

Regional PP leader Paco Núñez said the priority for water in Castilla‑La Mancha must be the local agricultural sector, stating “with the water of Castilla‑La Mancha they must first irrigate the Castilian‑Manchegos.” He linked this demand to a forthcoming national water pact expected under Prime Minister Alberto Núñez Feijóo, accusing the current socialist administration of neglecting water planning.

Núñez warned that the EU Water Framework Directive will end in 2027, threatening about 70 % of the more than 7 000 priority wells in the region, and urged the EU to extend the directive to 2032. He also criticised the regional government for not completing a regional water audit or a water‑needs map.

To support farmers, he proposed a 25 % income‑tax deduction for young agrarians, further tax breaks for machinery purchases, and the removal of inheritance, donation and property‑transfer taxes. Núñez called for administrative simplification and pledged a programme to develop agro‑industrial capacity, including a plan to turn Castilla‑La Mancha into a European hub for agricultural machinery production.
