Paco Núñez champions water policy in Castilla‑La Mancha as rivals challenge his claims

In recent statements, PP regional leader Paco Núñez said water is essential for the survival of Castilla‑La Mancha, blaming the regional PSOE government for failing to invest in water infrastructure and warning that without extending the EU Water Framework Directive the region could lose up to 70 % of its wells. He urged an extension of the directive deadline to 2032 and presented a “regional water pact”.

Regional president Emiliano García‑Page responded, rejecting Núñez’s remarks about the Tajo river, emphasizing that the Tajo supplies cities such as Toledo and Talavera and that the water transfer to the Segura must respect ecological flow rulings. He called Núñez’s arguments “nonsense” and demanded the central government enforce Supreme Court rulings on ecological flows.

The deputy second of the Guadalajara provincial council, David Pardo, contested Núñez’s claim that the Pastrana town council alone funded a school renovation. Pardo clarified that the €300 000 work was financed through the provincial Investment Fund for municipal headquarters, jointly supported by the provincial and regional administrations, and accused Núñez of political distortion.
