Romania distributes 500 lei educational support to 700,000 children

The Romanian Ministry of Investments and European Projects (MIPE) has finalized the funding of educational cards for the 2025–2026 school year. Approximately 701,968 eligible children, including preschoolers and students from disadvantaged families, have received 500 lei each in educational support. The total value of the disbursed funds amounts to nearly 351 million lei.

This financial aid is provided as a one-time annual social voucher on an electronic card to cover expenses necessary for education. The program is funded by European funds through the Inclusion and Social Dignity Program 2021–2027 and is scheduled to continue for the 2026–2027 school year.

Parents or legal representatives must apply or re-apply through their child's educational institution to verify eligibility for the upcoming 2026–2027 period. Applications must be submitted within 25 calendar days of the start of classes. Notably, funds remaining on cards from the 2025–2026 school year could only be used until August 31, 2026, and any unused balances were automatically withdrawn as of September 1, 2026.
