PAGASA warns of heavy monsoon rains across Luzon and Visayas

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued weather warnings for the Visayas and Luzon regions due to the active southwest monsoon, locally known as Habagat.

In the Visayas, including Negros Oriental, Cebu, and Siquijor, residents should expect rainshowers, thunderstorms, and moderate to rough coastal waters. The monsoon is driving unsettled conditions that may impact maritime travel and coastal livelihoods.

Across Luzon, heavy rainfall is expected to persist through August 31. Areas such as Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, and Occidental Mindoro may receive between 100 and 200 millimeters of rain. Other regions, including Metro Manila and parts of the Ilocos Region, are also forecast to receive significant precipitation. PAGASA warned of potential widespread flooding in low-lying and urban areas, as well as possible landslides in susceptible locations.
