Overview

By September 15, 2026, the cumulative impact of tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay, Neneng, and Pilandok, combined with the southwest monsoon, caused approximately ₱12.4 billion in damage to agriculture and infrastructure across the Philippines.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported agricultural losses of ₱4.1 billion, affecting 92,868 farmers and fisherfolk, while infrastructure damage reached ₱8.3 billion. The human toll included 44 deaths, 18 injuries, and five missing persons.

As of late September, the southwest monsoon, locally known as ‘habagat’, continues to drive unsettled weather across the archipelago. In the Visayas, including Negros Oriental, residents have faced grey skies, rainshowers, and afternoon thunderstorms. While no tropical cyclone signals have been issued, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has cautioned against risks of lightning, sudden wind gusts, and flooding.

In Mindanao, particularly the Zamboanga Peninsula, the monsoon has brought localized and intermittent thunderstorms. PAGASA has maintained warnings regarding the potential for flash floods and landslides, especially in mountainous terrain, near rivers, and in areas with a history of flooding. Residents and motorists are advised to remain alert to sudden downpours and changing visibility caused by these severe thunderstorms.
